Eddie Howe’s side travel to Elland Road aiming to continue their pursuit of Champions League qualification with four league fixtures remaining and this will be the fourth time Hooper has officiated a English top-flight fixture involving the Magpies this term.

The 40-year-old whistler, who was promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2018, was the man in the middle for Newcastle’s 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the 2022/23 campaign and handed out three yellow cards that afternoon, booking no United players.

Hooper officiated the reverse fixture at St. James’ Park and brandished eight yellow cards during a goalless draw on New Years' Eve, booking Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimarães and Callum Wilson.

The Swindon-born official also oversaw Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat against league leaders Manchester City in February and showed a total of six yellows at the Etihad Stadium, booking Dan Burn, Jamaal Lascelles, Guimarães and Joelinton.
