It will be the fourth game involving Newcastle United that Gillett has officiated this term; he was the man in the middle for the thrilling 3-3 draw with Manchester City at St. James' Park in August, when he showed six yellow cards, the 2-1 win at Tottenham, when he flashed another six yellow cards, and the 3-0 Boxing Day victory at Leicester. That day, he kept his cards in his pocket.

Overall, he has handed out 74 bookings and two red cards across 25 matches.

The Australian official, born in Queensland, made history last season after becoming the first overseas referee to take charge of a Premier League fixture during Newcastle's 1-1 draw away at Watford in September 2021.
