Eddie Howe's side will be bidding for back-to-back Premier League victories when they face Thomas Frank's Bees at St. James' Park and this will be the first time Brooks has officiated a English top-flight fixture involving the Magpies.

The Leicestershire whistler was the man in the middle for Newcastle's Carabao Cup victory, via penalties, against Newport County in September 2020 and issued two yellow cards during the fourth round tie at Rodney Parade, booking United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

Brooks, promoted to the Select Group 1 of referees ahead in June 2021, has officiated three Premier League clashes so far this season, brandishing a total of 16 yellow cards and zero reds.

The 32-year-old, who joined the FIFA International Referees List as an assistant referee in 2015, began refereeing in the National League, the fifth tier of English football.
