As his side get set to face Wolves, Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe believes his side "haven't hit top gear" yet this season.

The Magpies head to Molineux on Sunday (kick-off 4:30pm BST) looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign, which has seen them win two and draw one of their opening three Premier League fixtures.

United have seen off Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur already, and will face a Wolves side who are yet to win this term with Gary O'Neil's men currently sitting third-bottom of the table.

But Newcastle's head coach says there is still plenty more to come from his side, who now face back-to-back away games as domestic action resumes following the international break.

Howe spoke to the media ahead of the weekend trip to the West Midlands, with team news, his charges' start and Sandro Tonali's impressive displays for Italy all among the topics up for discussion. Here are some of the key talking points from his Friday morning media briefing:

On the Magpies' start to the season...

"We've had some very good results - really pleased with the start we have made in what is a difficult league.

"Performance-wise, we haven't hit top gear. We are going into a spell where we have difficult games away from home."

On the work done in the international break...

"Everyone, as far as we know, has come back and is in good shape. It has been productive for us, with some good training, so I have been pleased. We've given the lads a rest and then started our preparation towards Wolves."

On Sunday's opponents Wolves...

"(It's been a) very tough start for Wolves. They played very well in their last game against Nottingham Forest.

"(They're) always tough opponents, lot of respect for Gary O’Neil and the job he has done there. He is very tactically astute so we will be prepared for a tough game."

On seeing Tonali return to the Italy squad...

"I was pleased to see him play. He has performed well - those games would have done him the world of good.

"It's the first few steps for him, we are delighted he is available for us. Sandro has that flair and ability to make the difference. He is a player we absolutely love."

On Lewis Hall, who recorded two assists for England Under-21s this week...

"I'm really pleased with his development since he has been with us - he is growing in confidence all the time.

"We're very happy that he has gone away and had his first start for England Under-21s. Lewis is building in confidence all the time - you can see that from his early displays this season. He is playing with confidence."

On team news ahead of this weekend...

"We hope Bruno (Guimarães) is OK. Joe (Willock) is improving - he has been training with the group this week, albeit not full training. Positive signs for him.

"Callum (Wilson) is a little bit behind where we want him to be. We envisaged he might be training for the games coming up, but he is not there yet.

"Emil (Krafth) has been nursing a problem, we have seen him in training, he's joined in the last couple of days so we are hoping he will be fine."

On Anthony Gordon...

"Anthony is in a great place after the two England games. I thought he played really well.

"I know how proud he is to play for his country, so those two games would have meant a lot to him. He has come back in a great place."
