Robert Madley will take charge of Newcastle United's top-of-the-table Sky Bet Championship clash at Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday night.

Rafa Benitez's side travel to the Amex Stadium for the midweek match-up, and Yorkshire official Madley will referee the game - the first time he's been appointed for a Magpies fixture this season.

The last time Madley officiated a Newcastle game came at the end of last season, when he oversaw the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa in May 2016.

So far this campaign, the 31-year-old has refereed 22 games, though Tuesday's match will be his first in the Championship this term. He has shown 90 yellow cards and three red cards while taking charge of Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and League One fixtures.

Madley first became a Football League referee in 2010 before progressing to the top flight in 2013. He was promoted to the FIFA referee list in 2016.

He will be assisted by Marc Perry and Adrian Holmes at the Amex, while Lee Probert will be the fourth official.
