The award was presented to Longstaff at the Magpies’ training centre by two participants involved in Newcastle United Foundation’s Employability programmes: Lewis York from Gateshead, who is working with Foundation coaches to develop his transferable skills, obtain qualifications and secure work experience, and Ryan Kent from Blyth, who is participating in the Prince’s Trust TEAM programme, delivered by the Foundation, which helps build confidence and develop communication skills.
Longstaff was nominated by the Foundation after stepping up to become a Foundation Ambassador this year, as well as supporting the charity’s partnership with Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The 21-year-old made an appearance at Great North Children’s Hospital earlier this season, taking the time to meet current patients and their families.
“It’s been amazing to have had the opportunity to support the incredible work Newcastle United Foundation does,” said Longstaff.
“The Foundation delivers so many brilliant programmes across the region, engaging with tens of thousands of children, young people and families and it’s great to see the difference it makes to so many lives.
“I saw first-hand the impact the Foundation on children and their families at Great North Children’s Hospital. It makes me very proud to be an Ambassador for such a fantastic charity.”
Kate Bradley, Head of Newcastle United Foundation, added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the support from all of the players, and of course manager Rafa Benítez, throughout the season.
“The patients at Great North Children’s Hospital loved meeting Sean, and with him agreeing to become a Foundation Ambassador, we are very excited to work closely with him into next season and beyond.”
