Henri Saivet scored for the first time this season to help Bursaspor to a crucial 3-2 victory over former club Sivasspor in the Turkish Süper Lig.

Bursaspor – Turkish champions in 2010 – had dropped into the relegation zone following a heavy loss to İstanbul Başakşehir last time out, and looked to be heading for another defeat after conceding early on.

However, they managed to level prior to the break before taking the lead through Saivet. A late Delvin N’Dinga equaliser looked to have salvaged a point for Sivasspor, only for Saivet’s fellow midfielder Aytaç Kara to pop up with a dramatic winner six minutes into injury time.

Bursaspor are now a point clear of the third and final relegation place, with ten games of the campaign remaining.

Closer to home, Jack Colback and Dwight Gayle both clocked up 90 minutes for their respective clubs in the Championship, though neither had much to celebrate. Colback’s Forest lost 2-0 to Stoke City while Gayle and West Bromwich Albion were thumped 4-0 by Leeds United on Friday night. Jacob Murphy was an unused substitute for the Baggies.

Young duo Dan Barlaser and Liam Gibson also endured a disappointing weekend, with both players starting Accrington Stanley’s 1-0 defeat to Coventry City in League One. In the same division, Elias Sørensen wasn’t part of Blackpool’s matchday squad as the Tangerines were put to the sword by Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

In League Two, Jamie Sterry played the entirety of Crewe Alexandra’s 2-0 defeat to Northampton Town, while Cal Roberts came off the bench as Colchester United lost heavily to Swindon Town.

And, in the National League, Josef Yarney started and finished Chesterfield’s 1-0 reverse at Wrexham – the Spireites remaining four points above the drop zone ahead of tomorrow night’s trip to rock-bottom Braintree Town.
