Matty Longstaff netted the fifth goal of his loan spell at Mansfield Town on Tuesday night, helping the Stags earn a 2-0 home win over Stevenage.

The Newcastle United midfielder has been in impressive form for the League Two side since linking up with Nigel Clough's men during the January transfer window, and he continued his fine run in front of goal in the midweek clash at the One Call Stadium.

George Lapslie had given the hosts the lead six minutes into the second half, but the contest was still in the balance until the closing moments.

It took until the third minute of added time for Mansfield to make the points safe, with Longstaff finding himself with space in the box and applying an arrowed finish into the bottom left-hand corner to seal the victory.

Longstaff, who spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Aberdeen, has two assists to his name in addition to his five goals for Mansfield – an impressive tally from his 14 games so far.

Clough's charges are still in the hunt for promotion, with Tuesday's win taking them to within one point of an automatic promotion spot with just two games to go.

Meanwhile, Kell Watts was an unused substitute during Wigan Athletic's 3-2 defeat at Portsmouth in League One.

And in the Championship, Freddie Woodman also remained on the bench for Bournemouth’s 3-3 draw at his former loan club Swansea City on Tuesday.
