Chris Kavanagh will be the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League game against Manchester City at St. James' Park on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 12.30pm GMT).

The Manchester-born official, who was promoted to the Select Group of Referees in 2017, will take charge of his first game involving the Magpies this term and is set to make a half century of appearances as a top-flight referee.

The 34-year-old was the man in the middle for four of United's Premier League fixtures last season, showing 15 yellow cards in total - ten of which were given to Newcastle players.

So far this term, Kavanagh has officiated in the Premier League, Europa League as well as a 2020 European Championship qualifier, dishing out out 52 yellow cards in 12 outings but is yet to issue a red card.

On Saturday, Kavanagh will be assisted by Sian Massey-Ellis and Gary Beswick, while Oliver Langford will be the fourth official. Andre Marriner will be the video assistant referee, with Andy Halliday as the assistant VAR.
