Highly-rated youngster signs first professional deal with the Magpies

The highly-rated youngster has been with the Magpies since joining from his hometown club Carlisle United three years ago.

He turned 17 last month and has now agreed terms on his first professional deal. His grandfather, Peter Hampton, played for Leeds United, Stoke City and Burnley in the 1970s and 1980s.

A skilful playmaker, White admires former France legend Zinedine Zidane and Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne and, having excelled for United's under-18s this term, has already played for the under-23s and in the Leasing.com Trophy, as well as training with the first team.

Academy Manager Joe Joyce said: "I'm delighted we've been able to offer Joe his first professional contract. His progress and performances have thoroughly warranted it.

"He's performed consistently well at under-18 level and he's also had opportunities with the under-23s, as well as training with the first team.

"He's a very level-headed individual and I would expect this to inspire him to continue his good work, and hopefully he'll be recognised on the international stage sooner rather than later."
