The young Magpies welcome their Forest counterparts to Whitley Park, with Elliott Dickman's team aiming to record back-to-back Premier League 2 victories following an impressive 4-0 victory against Derby County's second-string last time out.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper, who kept a clean sheet during a goalless draw against League Two outfit Doncaster Rovers in the Papa John's Trophy, before losing 4-2 on penalties in the Northern Section Group E clash, is hoping to continue his bright form in-between the sticks since joining from Scottish League Two side East Fife last month.
The Coatbridge-born youngster told nufc.co.uk: "It's been a while since our last game so the boys are all ready to go and put in a performance like we did against Derby and hopefully get the win. It's going to be a tough game but it should be a good occasion for the group.
"Getting back-to-back league wins would be a good confidence boost as we haven't done that so far this season and to keep the momentum going. We're trying to get three clean sheets in a row (in all competitions), too, which would be do us all the world of good.
"Getting the first win of the season was very important as things weren't going our way at the start of the season. We know what we're capable of but some people may just look at the results and think they aren't performing well. We have a really good squad and we're hopeful of keeping the run going.
"There were plenty of positives to take from the game against Doncaster. Obviously, we didn't manage to score and lost on penalties but it was a good chance to impress against men. We didn't play our best but it is a good sign as we still managed to keep a clean sheet and created a number of chances in the match."
Since completing his move to Tyneside in August, Smith - who made his senior debut for East Fife at the tender age of 18 - revealed he has relished his first few weeks at his new club.
With fellow goalkeepers Max Thompson and Will Brown targeting the number one jersey at under-21 level, Smith admitted the competition for places has only been beneficial for the developing teenager.
Smith, who began his career at Celtic's youth ranks, added: "I'm thoroughly enjoying my time at Newcastle. I knew there'd be an opportunity to play but I was thrown into the deep end, if you like, after Thommo (Max Thompson) picked up an injury. It's been good, healthy competition in fighting for that goalkeeping spot.
"That's what you need as a goalkeeper because if you don't have anyone pushing you or feeling you have a safe position in the team, you won't be applying yourself as much as you can."
