Eddie Howe has won the Premier League's Barclays Manager of the Month award for October

The Newcastle head coach led the Magpies to five wins and a draw from six matches in the top flight as his side took 16 of the 18 points available.

They scored 15 times in those games, conceding just three times, to gatecrash the top four - and have since climbed to third in the table as well as progressing in the Carabao Cup.

Votes from the public were combined with those of a panel of football experts, and Howe beat Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to the award.

It's the fifth time that Howe has won the award, and the second time as Newcastle United head coach - he also received it in February - and he insisted on members of his backroom team and support staff joining him to receive the trophy.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Friday, he said: "For me, really the award is for the team - the team of staff and the team of players. I'm delighted to collect that for them."
