Harvey Barnes has been named Sela Player of the Month, following a prolific run of form which saw him contribute an impressive goal return throughout September.

The winger found the net three times in four appearances for the Magpies during the month, including a stunning long-range winner in the victory against Wolves at Molineux.

Strikes against Fulham and Tottenham have also helped to fire Barnes top of the club's goalscoring charts after the opening six matches of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The 26-year-old credited a "strong pre-season" as the main factor for his quick start to the campaign, having overcome a debut year disrupted by injury since arriving on Tyneside last summer.

"It's been a very positive few weeks for me," he said. "I've started the season well and been a part of some good results. Generally, I feel a lot more settled this year.

"I think having a strong pre-season has been a factor for the early season form. I worked really hard over the summer and it's now paying off during games. I feel fit and sharp; that will only keep on improving.

"Competition for places is fierce too, and you want to be playing every week, so you need to perform. I feel like I've done that so far: like I've said, it's been a solid start to the season."

Speaking as he collected the award, which is voted for by supporters, he added: "We go out there every week trying to get results and put in performances for the fans. This award obviously reflects recognition from them, so it's a really nice one to collect."

Voting for the Sela Player of the Month currently takes place after every match in the club's post-match email.
