Teenage defender Matt Bondswell has joined Shrewsbury Town for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign

The Nottingham-born left-back, who joined the Magpies in March 2021 following his departure from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, made his Newcastle first-team debut during United's pre-season victory over Doncaster Rovers in July and will link up with Steve Cotterill's side until the end of the current season.

The rapid youngster, who has represented England at under-18 level, began his playing career at hometown club Nottingham Forest, spending eight years at the Tricky Trees' youth set-up.

After relocating to Germany in the summer of 2018 to join Leipzig, Bondswell made his professional debut at the age of 18 whilst on loan at Dutch club FC Dordrecht.

The Shrews, who currently sit in 16th place of League One, host Fleetwood Town on Saturday, 5th February, with Bondswell aiming to make his EFL debut at Montgomery Waters Meadow.
