The defender has joined National League outfit Hartlepool United, having spent three years at St. James' Park.
He didn't make a competitive first-team appearance for the Magpies, but played under Eddie Howe in a handful of friendlies, including matches against Benfica, Atalanta and Athletic Bilbao. He spent last season on loan with Newport County.
Subject to league approval, Bondswell, 22, will be eligible for Hartlepool's fixture at home to Eastleigh on Saturday.
He told his new club's official website: "I've trained with the squad over the last few weeks and it's been a great experience. I can't wait to get back playing and helping the team pick up as many points as possible. I'm looking forward to Saturday's game and seeing the fans for the first time."
Bondswell has been joined this week at Pools by another former Newcastle United player - Kazenga LuaLua, who is now 33 years old and had been training with the club over the last month.
