Sam Barrott will referee Newcastle United's Carabao Cup quarter-final against Brentford on Wednesday night.

United go in search of a place in the last four at St. James' Park (kick-off 7:45pm GMT) and Barrott - in his first season as a Select Group 1 official - has been handed the task of keeping order when the Bees come to town.

It will be his first fixture involving the Magpies this term, but he did make one trip to Tyneside last season. The West Riding official refereed Newcastle's 3-0 home Premier League win over Fulham almost exactly a year ago, sending off the visitors' Raul Jimenez in that December 2023 clash.

The 2023/24 campaign was Barrott's first experience of top flight football, having worked his way up through the EFL since his promotion from the National League in 2020. So far this term, he has taken charge of ten games in the Premier League, as well as one Carabao Cup fixture - Crystal Palace's 2-1 win at Aston Villa in October.
