Ahead of Newcastle United's Premier League trip to Brentford on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm GMT), we take a look at the Magpies' best encounters against the Bees over the years...

Maxi magic seals point in six-goal thriller (2021/22)

The last encounter between the two sides saw the Magpies come from behind twice against the Premier League new boys in a pulsating 3-3 draw at St. James' Park in November.

Newly appointed head coach Eddie Howe was forced to watch the fixture from his hotel room, following a positive coronavirus test, as Jamaal Lascelles' header broke the deadlock before the hosts were pegged back 75 seconds later through former Magpie Ivan Toney.

Thomas Frank's side then led after the half-hour mark courtesy of Rico Henry's strike before Joelinton netted his first goal of the 2021/22 campaign, curling the ball into the net following Allan Saint-Maximin's teasing cross.

Despite Lascelles' unfortunate own goal in the second-half, Saint-Maximin latched onto Ryan Fraser's bending cross before volleying home in front of the Gallowgate End to rescue a point.

Daryl's delight as United go top (2016/17)

Daryl Murphy netted his first league goal for Newcastle as the Magpies claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Griffin Park during the 2016/17 Championship campaign.

Rafa Benítez's side opened the scoring in West London following Dwight Gayle's 20th league goal of the season, the first Newcastle player to reach the landmark since Alan Shearer in 2003/04, before the forward was replaced by Murphy following a knee injury.

Brentford, managed by current Norwich head coach Dean Smith, equalised after the interval through Lasse Vibe before Murphy headed home from Ayoze Pérez's cross to seal maximum points in the capital.

Dwight on the double (2016/17)

Dwight Gayle scored in each half as Newcastle secured a comfortable 3-1 win over Brentford at St. James' Park - the Magpies' third Championship victory in a row.

Two goals in five first-half minutes gave Newcastle a commanding advantage following Ciaran Clark's opener and Gayle's ninth league goal of the campaign in his opening 12 matches.

The former Crystal Palace striker converted from close-range four minutes after the restart and although Scott Hogan reduced the deficit for the visitors, Newcastle were rarely tested in the closing stages.

Bellamy's extra-time treble seals cup progression (2001/02)

Newcastle survived an early exit from the League Cup as Craig Bellamy's hat-trick saw Bobby Robson's side claim a 4-1 win over the Bees after 120 minutes of play at St. James' Park.

The old Second Division outfit took a shock first-half lead through former Ghana international Lloyd Owusu before Shola Ameobi's volley levelled the tie towards the hour-mark.

Introduced from the substitutes' bench, Bellamy made a terrific impact in extra-time as the Welshman netted three times in 12 minutes to secure United's passage into round three.

Lee glee as Newcastle batter Bees (1992/93)

Newcastle continued their pursuit of the First Division Title with a convincing 5-1 triumph over the relegation stricken side in March.

David Kelly netted his 19th goal of the term in all competitions before Paul Bracewell's second-half strike extended the lead for Kevin Keegan's side.

Geordie midfielder Lee Clark added gloss to the scoreline and, despite Kevin Scott's own goal, Rob Lee regained United's three-goal cushion before Clark netted his second to seal the rout.
