Eddie Howe's side travel to the South coast aiming to consolidate their position in the top four along with extending their unbeaten run to nine matches and this will be the first time the Nuneaton-born official will take charge of a game involving the Magpies this season.

The 40-year-old - who became the youngest person to referee in the Premier League when he made his top-flight debut at the age of 25 in 2008 - oversaw Newcastle's 5-0 away defeat at Manchester City last season and booked four players at the Etihad Stadium, including Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Bruno Guimarães.

Promoted to the Select Group Referees in 2016, Attwell also took charge of Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in November, booking Emil Krafth, Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles in North London.

The Warwickshire whistler has already handed out two red cards in the Premier League this term, both brandished at Elland Road after sending off Chelsea's Kalidou Koulibaly in the Blues' 3-0 defeat back in August as well as Leeds' Luis Sinisterra in October's goalless draw against Aston Villa.
