The Magpies make the trip to South Yorkshire this weekend to face Paul Heckingbottom’s newly-promoted Blades, aiming for a first away win of the 2023/24 campaign.

This will be the second time Attwell has officiated a fixture involving the Magpies this term, with the Nuneaton-born official overseeing Newcastle’s 3-1 away defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this month.

The 40-year-old whistler handed out eight yellow cards at the Amex Stadium that evening, booking Dan Burn, Fabian Schär and Anthony Gordon during the Magpies’ trip to the South coast.

In the six games Attwell has officiated so far this term, he has handed out a total of 22 yellow cards and two red cards, controversially sending off Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall during a 3-2 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
