So, here we are. A moment in time. A page in history.

Newcastle United’s third ever League Cup final, yet remarkably their second under the management of Eddie Howe. As supporters we will always remember what happens this weekend at Wembley.

Whether the day ends with Bruno lifting the Carabao Cup trophy, sparking wild celebrations that stretch all the way to Tyneside from Wembley and right across the world for those who proudly follow the famous Black and Whites, or even if it ends with another tale of defeat and disappointment, we will always remember.

Wherever you are in the world this weekend and whoever you are with, whether it be family, friends, acquaintances or even if you’ve decided to shut yourself away on your own, we will always remember Sunday.

I’m one of the lucky few that will be at Wembley with various family and friends. It will be my fourth visit there to watch my beloved Newcastle United and I’m yet to witness a victory.

I still vividly remember the one and only goal, 25 years ago when Rob Lee headed in a belter against Chelsea and we all went wild. It was one of my greatest moments as a Magpies fan, which probably sums up our lack of success over my lifetime.

Over the past few weeks I’ve been out and about filming interviews for Sky Sports with some famous faces and former players.

It was wonderful to chat to people with the same mindset as myself: the likes of actor Robson Green, darts superstar Chris Dobey and even our all-time leading goalscorer Alan Shearer. They’ll all be here today and they’re equally excited yet crippled with nerves about the prospect of what may lie ahead.

Shearer himself said that ‘you probably won’t see me for a long time if we win’ – referencing the size of the party that will take place if we actually win the trophy!

I honestly think the entire fanbase will associate with Big Al’s comments and as I sit here writing this, I genuinely don’t know how I might react should the best possible outcome be secured.

Let’s face it, when it comes to the opposition, it doesn’t get much tougher than a match against Liverpool.

Arne Slot has done an incredible job in his debut season, guiding the Reds to the very top of the Premier League, impressing in Europe and of course landing a place in today’s cup final.

This weekend feels very different to the last Carabao Cup final against Manchester United a couple of years ago.

On that day I truly felt we had a better team and it had been so long since we’d been in a cup final that the expectation was through the roof.

This weekend, although I’m still massively hopeful and truly believe we have a side capable of beating anyone when we’re at our best, it feels as though we are the genuine underdogs and I just feel that might play into our hands.

We arrive here on the back of a win in London against West Ham, whereas Liverpool suffered a bruising defeat after 120 minutes in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain.

That result has ramped the pressure up on Liverpool as they face up to the prospect of crashing out of two tournaments in one week.

Newcastle United, as we know, haven’t won a domestic trophy for 70 years and as a fanbase we appreciate that great days lie ahead.

With that in mind, my message to everyone would be to enjoy the occasion. Make as much noise as possible. Cheer every tackle, every pass, every header.

Let’s start by trying to score a goal, any goal, a single goal… and then after that, who knows what may happen. I won’t be home for tea, Ma.
