The Magpies’ confirmed initial match schedule, including provisional dates and kick-off times, will be revealed on nufc.co.uk.
United – who earned a 13th-place finish last term – will begin another top flight campaign on the second weekend of August.
In each of the last two seasons, Newcastle have welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to St. James’ Park on the opening day, while Spurs were also the visitors as the Magpies kicked off the 2012/13 campaign with a 2-1 win on Tyneside.
There have been some memorable opening day victories during the Premier League era, with Kevin Keegan’s side netting three goals against Coventry City in 1995, while Sir Bobby Robson’s Magpies thrashed West Ham United 4-0 in 2002.
United have a good record in their first home game of the season during their time in the Premier League, winning ten and drawing seven of their 24 outings, while recent seasons have seen Newcastle finish in style – they have won each of their last five campaign-closing fixtures, including the win over Barnsley which secured the Championship title in 2017, scoring 17 goals and conceding just one in the process.
